Tuesday Group Art

A beautiful painting by one of the Wild Honey Tuesday Group’s regulars. Painting is very popular and we have some brilliant artists.

Thank you Christchurch

Posted on 10th August 2016

Most of you have met the Chinese girls who have become so much a part of our church scene over the past year. We are writing this to let you all know just how much they have appreciated our friendship. Claire, Sharon and Lily have flown back to Taiwan this week (Lily is to return in two weeks to finish her project.) Sharon made us a beautiful booklet full of pictures, thoughts and memories which she said would stay with her for the rest of her life. It must have taken her many hours of careful work – all done in a language which she has only learnt recently. She has expressed in it some feelings for her faith, which we had not realised were so deep because of the language barrier. We had some lovely gatherings with them and knew that they enjoyed them, but this touching memento was the confirmation that we had not expected.

So, never forget, that a warm and friendly welcome can mean so much especially to friends from abroad.

This is abridged from an article in the August newsletter, written by Janet and Mike Asher

Wild Honey Summer Saturday

Posted on 31st July 2016

There was an excellent summer fair at Christchurch yesterday to raise funds for the Wild Honey project. There were stalls for craft work by the Tuesday Group, paintings by local artists, indoor plants, books and bric-a-brac; lots of wonderful home-made cakes, and really good lunches. £505 was raised, which will support the running costs of the project. No More Pints in the Cradock

Posted on 26th November 2015

The Tuesday evening discussion group which has been meeting in the Cradock Arms for some years (and in Sansome’s Bar before that) has met for the last time. The group decided it was time to do something new. Just what, has not been decided – one decision at a time is enough. It’s all too easy to get stuck in a rut and sometimes we need to bring one activity to a close, to release energies for a new one. It probably won’t be the last pint in the Cradock though.

Baptismal Service

Posted on 22nd November 2015

The pictures speak for themselves! We had a wonderful service of praise and rejoicing this evening when Laura and Dave were baptised. With family and friends there as well as the church family, and led by the band, it was a service to remember.

Lunch Aid

Posted on 21st November 2015

At Lunch AidIt was nice to come in out of the cold this lunchtime and have a hot meal in Christchurch at the ‘Lunch Aid’ event in aid of Action for Children. There were also stalls selling homemade cakes, Traidcraft fairly traded goods, a tombola, children’s books, clothes… All the hard work of the cooks, servers and others was greatly appreciated.

Wild Honey sale raises over £500

Posted on 17th August 2015

The Wild Honey project had a great fundraising do at Christchurch last Saturday, with stalls for secondhand books, plants, crafts, cakes, bric-a-brac and more. Apart from the money it was an enjoyable social occasion with lots of local people dropping in to browse, chat, and have a cup of tea or a sandwich. The money raised will be used to support the Tuesday Group and the new Keep Up! evenings, which will restart in September.

Cakes, cakes and more cakes

Posted on 1st August 2015

For some time now one of our members, Sue, has been selling cakes after the morning service on the second Sunday of the month, to raise money for various charities, often for the Mustard Seed Project and for Action for Children. Over the last few months the morning’s takings have exceeded £60! Well done Sue, and thanks to everyone who buys the cakes (very timely if there is a café church in the evening!) There’s a summer break in August and in October, to make a change, Trevor’s delicious home made preserves will be on sale to boost funds for the Nigeria healthcare Project, something that the Wesley Guild has been supporting for a number of years.

Artbeat Festival

Posted on 24th June 2015

Artbeat, the Clarendon Park Community Arts Festival, has just come to an end. Christchurch hosted the launch event last Friday, and three classical concerts, on Saturday lunchtime with Marika, Sunday afternoon with the Knighton Chamber Orchestra and Tudor Chior, and Monday lunchtime with musicians from the University of Leicester. The concerts attracted audiences of about 50, and the players remarked that they really liked the Worship Centre as a venue.
